FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A lot of people have asked us a myriad of questions regarding how DELTARUNE INTERDREAM relates to DELTATRAVELER, considering they're kinda sorta the same game... but also not. We're hoping this extensive list of stuff will clarify something about how we're changing the game.

TO PREFACE THIS, this page will contain some very extensive SPOILERS for the game; notably the setting of each chapter and how they play out. If you're a newcomer to the game, and want to be surprised by what the game has to offer, then GET OFF OF THIS PAGE!!!

Otherwise, this is effectively a massive QnA. We've plopped the answer to each question under expandable sections depending on your curiosity level and willingness to see certain spoilers.

DELTARUNE INTERDREAM is a reboot of DELTATRAVELER. We are taking the fundamentals of the original game and rebuilding it from the ground up into something new. There are some things that will remain the same. There will be a lot of others that will be different.

  • DELTATRAVELER was a lot more community and culturally referential, especially with regards to memes (reputation as a meme game). INTERDREAM takes itself more seriously, akin to how the official games takes themselves seriously.
  • DELTATRAVELER is more focused on the crossover aspect of entering different worlds. INTERDREAM is more focused on the characters and their relationships.
  • DELTATRAVELER puts a lot of focus on making the worlds and story of each chapter as faithful to their source material as possible. INTERDREAM explores ways to expand or remix ideas from the source material of each world in ways that make sense in a sort of UNDERTALE-series style.

We sort of consider INTERDREAM to be a different game in that sense, given how much of the game is being changed... but also not, given how the general structure remains in tact. It's weird, and you shouldn't think too hard on it.

What I will say is that you should NOT call your DELTATRAVELER playthrough / livestream "DELTARUNE INTERDREAM".

After we finish Classic v3.1.0 and stop releasing patches for it, the original DELTATRAVELER will officially be dead. INTERDREAM takes its place. Old downloads for DELTATRAVELER will remain up, though.

This is a long-term project and the early chapters deserve to be in a better state, especially if we want to have later chapters be of a high quality. That's the main synopsis of why.

If you want more details, we could run down a couple:

  • DELTATRAVELER was too derivative and had not much new to make it stand out from DELTARUNE and each chapter's source material (too safe)
  • We felt DELTATRAVELER owes its success and reputation to being consumable content to enjoy in-between DELTARUNE chapters, and is often viewed under the lens of "a relic of the Chapter 2 era of the fandom." We want the game to be able to stand on its own outside of DELTARUNE hype cycles.

Generally, they're similar, but they're longer and have a lot more going on narratively.

We want you to not worry about this too much, but if you're curious on each...

Section 1 › Chapter 1

The first half remains mostly the same (UNDERTALE Ruins), but afterwards, you're suddenly taken to a new part of the Ruins (The Catacombs) that sits between UNDERTALE Yellow's Dark Ruins and the old "Home" town that was first shown in the UNDERTALE 10th Anniversary Stream, with a goal of returning back to Upper Ruins.

Section 2 › Chapter 2

This chapter still takes place in Earthbound at the part of the game involving Happy Happy Village and the Lilliput Steps "Your Sanctuary" location, but it's expanded quite a bit from the original chapter. You'll see what we mean by this.

Section 3 › Chapter 3

It's still UNDERFELL, but we're opting to create our own UNDERFELL take rather than staying with GG!UNDERFELL... not wise to stick with something that's fundamentally tied to an inexperienced 15 year old.

Specifically, we're adapting VyletBunni's ideas for a GG!UNDERFELL reboot that she thought of in 2024 as a sort of "what if I made this but now as an adult and not as a lazy teenager?" It's tentatively titled VB!UNDERFELL.

Some of the general ideas may end up being similar, but we feel it will be very, very different.

Section 4 › Chapter 4

Quite a bit of our original ideas will remain in tact for the first half, but this chapter will be expanded a lot more than originally intended. It still takes place in Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, but the second half will have much more of an emphasis on its own version of the Dark World.

Also, we will no longer be 1-to-1 recreating Zelda ALTTP gameplay for this chapter. Instead, we will be integrating a gimmick that is sort of similar to Zelda gameplay while remaining true to DELTARUNE.

Section 5 › Chapter 5

We're still basing it off of UNDERSWAP, but we have decided to change it to a different community take of UNDERSWAP due to certain complications with our original plans involving TS!UNDERSWAP. We will announce which take we're adapting at a later date.

That being said, as the original chapter was already very ambitious in contrast to the rest of DELTATRAVELER, the new chapter structure will likely be pretty similar to the original idea.

Section 6 › Chapter 6

This frankly needs more conceptual work, but we still plan on this taking place in the Mushroom Kingdom from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. However, it won't take place inside of Bowser anymore, and will not have 1-to-1 recreated Mario & Luigi gameplay. It will also be using a gimmick similar to the source material's gameplay style that remains true to DELTARUNE.

Section 7 Was Cut

We've talked about this previously back in September 2025, but we'll reiterate here. We weighed how much effort it would take to adapt Toontown Online into our game, while also recreating the gameplay style 1-to-1 (much like original plans for Chapter 4 and 6), and ultimately decided the effort did not justify the idea.

The core idea of it was to push Toontown's cartoony aesthetic and create more animated, choreographed story scenes that the director (Sarah) felt a lot of Toontown fan projects simply were not doing. But that ambitious idea was not supported by what the chapter contained, which was pretty much a lower stakes section, which some people would consider to be filler. It would've been similar in length to the original version of Chapter 4. However, for the Toontown chapter, it would require a lot more effort using a property that most people playing the game either don't know about or don't care about. Plus, that ENTIRE part of the game could be undercut by a climactic boss fight that you would encounter in the intermission segment between it and the next chapter.

Thus, we opted to cut it and pour whatever effort would've gone into recreating Toontown faithfully into making the other chapters better. We are unopposed to Toontown stuff appearing as hidden content in INTERDREAM, however, and have some ideas that we'll be exploring.

Section 8 › Chapter 7

Plans remain decently unchanged, but because this chapter doesn't involve adapting an existing work, there isn't anything we can or should talk about in detail.

We won't be calling it that anymore. We have a couple internal names we're using for the new version, but we'll be vaguely referring to it as our "evil route."

Regarding its contents... well, you want us to spoil the surprise?

Just between you and me, a lot can change when you treat death with proper weight.

Well, it wasn't really that different in the original, so it'll continue to not be very different.

That being said, we've had talks of having some other major route that's somewhat tied to pacifism, but more so tied to a story element...

No. This decision ultimately came down to issues with deviation of the core gameplay, as well as difficulties implementing the pacifist system in a way that doesn't harm both it and violence options. It's also a ton of effort for something that is ultimately just fan service, when we could've made something more memorable by creating something new.

Instead, we aim to implement mechanics and gimmicks in each non-Undertale chapter that reflect the play style of the original games. Maybe not so much in Chapter 2, since it's still so early, but we definitely do have plans.

Also, the UI in each chapter will reflect its world. Here's an example from Chapter 2:

(actual in-game screenshot... it's so cool)

It depends on if there's still a place for it. It's handled on a case by case basis.

If you want to know what we've currently decided on (which can change at any time, don't get your hopes up), here's a list. SOME MIGHT BE SPOILERS FOR INTERDREAM SO AVERT YOUR EYES.

  • Readjustment
  • Rude Encounter
  • FLOWEY
  • Porky's Mayhem (as a remix)
  • Patient Courage
  • A Dogmatic Encounter
  • The Shining Star
  • CHEETO THUNDER...
  • Castle Crashin'
  • LOSTCORE
  • Whisperless Void

No. There won't be a proper hard mode until AFTER the game is done.

And it won't be like the one in DELTATRAVELER, where you control the UNDERTALE protagonist rather than DELTARUNE's. "Hard Mode" in the original was more of a bit that was lifted from UNDERTALE (it was also the first area only), with some late-game foreshadowing at the end. We want INTERDREAM's hard mode to be a more unique experience that's better if you've played the game before.

If nothing else, you'll understand our opinions of this once DELTATRAVELER Classic v3.1.0 releases... whenever that will be.

This will be handled on a case by case basis, but in short: Anything that hinges too much on a meme or reference is likely to be removed. This includes, most prominently, the whole "Doobie Ralsei" bit. Even before we chose for the character to have a larger role in the story, we had decided the bit should be removed due to two reasons:

  1. The bit has run its course and isn't funny anymore.
  2. We felt this sort of bit doesn't really fit DELTARUNE.

Whoa, whoa, you're going a little far in asking for spoilers.

Then the game will be cancelled, and we release most of the development planning resources, alongside the source code.

I think we won't become unhappy with the game's direction. What would happen is that we would just lose passion for the project as a whole.

There were a few questions that we felt weren't significant enough to warrant their own section, so here's a bunch of random answers:

  • UNO will return
  • Mario Bros. might return, but it depends on if we can integrate it into Chapter 6 in a meaningful way
  • The game is still made in Unity. Do not ask about Game Maker, it doesn't matter.
  • Moss will be more consistent, I swear
  • Yuri will be increased.
